Armed policemen have arrested the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barrister Julius Abure, on Wednesday.
Abure faces allegations of embezzling about N3billion of party funds.
Spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force Zone 5, Tijani Momoh, confirmed Abure was arrested this afternoon in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
Momoh told newsmen that the National Labour Party Chairman and four others were arrested over a petition written against them by a petitioner whose name he did not mention.
He said an allegation of attempted murder was levelled against Abure.
Images and visuals emerged on social media, showing Abure seated on the floor before he was taken away in a vehicle by the policemen.
