Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has announced that his administration is aligning with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the health sector to enhance access to quality healthcare in the state.
Otti made this statement while receiving Dr. Salma Ibrahim, the Special Adviser to the President on Health, and her team during their advocacy visit to Abia. He emphasized the shared goals between Abia and the Federal Government, particularly in health, highlighting a unified drive toward common objectives despite political differences.
Otti stated, “Given all the points you mentioned about the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, specifically regarding health, I don’t think it would be an exaggeration to say that even if we’re not in the same party, we are on the same pedestal. We are driving towards the same purpose. We have already embraced this Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government. Listening to you, all the areas of interest to the Federal Government are also our areas of interest.”
Governor Otti outlined his administration’s achievements in the health sector, including a substantial budget for the healthcare delivery system, the restoration of accreditation for Abia State University Teaching Hospital, clearing health workers’ salaries, and addressing maternal and child mortality rates. He affirmed his administration’s readiness to collaborate with the Federal Government to ensure quality healthcare delivery for the people.
Dr. Salma Ibrahim, in her speech, called for a partnership between Abia and the Federal Government to accelerate health sector transformation initiatives under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. She emphasized the need for sustained efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality, assuring that the Federal Government would support Abia State in achieving its health policy goals. Dr. Ibrahim also commended Governor Otti for increasing the healthcare budget by 15 percent.
