The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has called for the construction of a flyover at the Imo State University (IMSU) Junction to control traffic and prevent accidents. His remarks came in response to a tragic motor accident at the junction that claimed more than ten lives.
Speaking through his media aide, Ikenna Onuoha, Anyanwu emphasized that constructing a flyover or a standard roundabout at the IMSU Junction would help stop the frequent accidents at this spot. He expressed regret that for the past five years, the junction has been a site of frequent accidents due to the government’s inability to find lasting solutions to the traffic issues.
Anyanwu criticized the APC administration in Imo State for its lack of proactive measures to safeguard the well-being of its citizens. He questioned how the state government has consistently ignored critical areas affecting the public.
“If the present government in the State is proactive and has the interest of the citizens at heart, the first thing it would have done is to identify areas that affect the citizens and urgently proffer solutions to them. IMSU Junction is one of the areas that need immediate attention. This is because students and lecturers stay at the junction to wait for taxis and buses. Instead of spending the state’s funds on frivolous and unimportant projects, the state government should immediately take action geared towards rescuing the situation,” he said.
Expressing shock over the tragic loss of lives and properties in the recent accident, Anyanwu extended his condolences to the families of the victims. He prayed for God to grant them the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
