The Ukwa community in Abia State is protesting the alleged murder of Miss Ochieze, a local woman, by her Chinese boss at the Inner Galaxy Company. According to reports, Ochieze, who worked at the company in Umuahala and Umuorie communities of Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area, died after being pushed from a crane by her boss.
Following the incident, community youths stormed the company on May 20, 2024, to protest her death. However, they were met with harassment and intimidation by the company’s security personnel.
The youths are calling on Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, House of Representatives member Hon. Chris Nkwonta, NDDC board representative Chief Dimgba Eruba, and other local officials to ensure justice is served. They are urging civil rights organizations and the Inspector General of Police to help bring the perpetrator to justice, emphasizing that “an injury to one is an injury to all.”
