Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has reinstated the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was previously deposed in March 2020.
This development follows the governor’s assent to a bill passed by the state assembly on Thursday, reversing the creation of new emirates instituted by the former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s administration.
With the governor’s proclamation, Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, who had succeeded Sanusi, has now been dethroned.
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II was removed and replaced as Emir of Kano in 2020 following the passage of an executive bill sponsored by then-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. This bill divided the state into five emirates by creating four new emirates with first-class emirs in Gaya, Rano, Karaye, and Bichi.
