Umuahia, Aba residents remain calm amidst nationwide hunger protest

Some residents of Umuahia have asked the federal government to reverse the fuel subsidy to enable goods and transportation affordable for the poor masses.
This is coming as some business owners opened their shops for businesses, following the planned nationwide hunger protest scheduled to commence from August 1 to 10. Our correspondent Felix Obani who went round Umuahia reports that other closed shops started opening from 10am, while security agents were seen parading around Umuahia metropolis.
Security agents including corrections centre Umuahia, civil defense headquarters Umuahia and the central police station blocked their premises. Sources from Aba also said there was no protest in the city, while people were doing their normal businesses. However, banks, civil servants and other private institutions did not open for business, but the federal medical centre was open.
Interacting with a tricycle operator, Mr Ukachukwu Nwaigwe urged the federal government to return the fuel subsidy.
According to him, Nigerians including him are protesting because of the exorbitant price of goods. The 74 year old tricycle rider advised the youths to be patient while agitating for good governance
