A tense confrontation erupted at the governor’s lodge in Kogi State when operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attempted to arrest former Governor Yahaya Bello. Security personnel stationed at the lodge resisted the move, leading to a heated altercation with the EFCC officials.
Governor Ahmed Ododo, Bello’s successor, intervened by whisking the former governor away from the scene. The EFCC has maintained that Bello remains wanted for alleged N80.2 billion money laundering charges and is not currently in their custody. However, Bello’s media team claims that he voluntarily visited the EFCC office but was not interrogated.
The incident marks the latest in a series of attempts by the EFCC to apprehend Bello, who has been evading arrest since being declared wanted in April. Despite court orders and numerous adjournments, Bello has yet to appear before the trial judge.
